In association with LI cooperating organisations RELIAL and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Liberty, la Fundación Libertad de Paraguay organised the third International Forum for Liberty in Asuncion, Paraguay from 6-8 November.
The event attracted a high number of liberal thinkers from across Latin America including Otto Guevara Guth, the President of RELIAL and President of LI full-member Partido Movimiento Libertario in Costa Rica. Addressing the forum, Mr. Guevara called on liberals to push the boundaries and work together for a common cause. "Little by little [governments] have taken our liberty away. We, the freedom fighters, must operate within an extensive agenda. The example of Venezuela shows that democracy is not enough to guarantee liberty, as an originally democratic process has been turned into an excessive concentration of power in the hands of the few alongside numerous human rights violations. The same is happening in Ecuador, Bolivia and Nicaragua. In order to avoid this, we must implement public policies, separate and decentralise power and work for a state based on law, market economy and property rights."
