Climate change is not science. It is our new 21st century religion. Like religion, the theory of anthropogenic global warming (AGW) generates passionate emotions. Like religion, it is rarely the subject of rational and measured debate. As with religion, dissenters are branded “heretics”. As with Medićval Catholicism, it is possible to clear your conscience by buying ‘Papal Indulgences’, or as we now call it, carbon-offsetting (and some of those selling such programmes today may be as much charlatans as the itinerant Medićval priests offering get-out-of-purgatory cards).
