In order to create public awareness, Instituto Liberdade in partnership with Instituto de Estudos Empresariais, Ordem Livre (the Atlas Economic Research Foundation platform in Brazil), Rede DiTrento, ACLAME (Middle Class Association), CDL Jovem Porto Alegre and FAJERGS, organized and promoted the traditional campaign to sell gasoline without taxes to the community, in Porto Alegre.
Date: May 25th, 2012
Time: there was a queue with distribution of a pin, first come first served basis starting early morning; the campaign started at 10 am. Limited volume of gasoline until it lasted.
The total commercialized volumewas 5,000 liters, and the quota was 20 liters per vehicle. The fuel at the gas station price was R$ 2.89 per liter and the fuel with no taxes was R$ 1.40 per liter. Meaning 53.03% of tributes over the gasoline.
The campaign of the Tax Freedom Day is national and most major cities in the country had similar activities, thanks to volunteers of the Brazilian Freedom Network. This way the media gave a better coverage of news and more people will understand the meaning of direct and indirect taxations. |
